Harvest Weekend Workshop in Rural East Anglia
Dates: Saturday 29th August to Sunday 30th August 2009
To celebrate the time of the year when the earth offers up its harvest, Oakenwood offer a Harvest Weekend Workshop in the beautiful countryside of East Anglia.
Fruits of the Land:
Our itinerary concentrates on how to make the best use of what can be harvested from the wild, from your garden or bought relatively cheaply from your local shops, together with the opportunity for hands on experience: a glut of fresh local produce is usually cheaper to buy than when they are out of season. We include ideas on how to preserve and use them for the winter months.
Workshop Itinerary:
How to make delicious and nutritious soups
A glut of tomatoes and a delicious sauce that we will use for making a meal to share on the Saturday evening
How to make country wine, and an opportunity to sample last year’s crop
Preserving fruit and simple desserts that will titillate the taste buds
Harvesting and preserving herbs and what to do with them
Flavoured oils for cooking and healing
Creams and ointments and a pot of face cream to take home
An old way of using acorns and the legend that tells the story
How to prepare your body for the winter ahead
A walk out in the quiet country lanes to give recognition of what can be useful to harvest and use.
